In this tutorial you will learn how to make cool looking 3D boxes in Photoshop
1. Create a new document with a proportions like in picture below

2. Now, create a new layer.
Go to Filter -> Render -> 3D Transform

3. Grab the Cube tool (M) from the toolbox at the transform window.

Make a couple of cubes like shown on picture, by holding left mouse button and pulling your mouse in some direction.

4. Grab the Trackball tool (R) from the toolbox of your transform window.Ž

Click on your cubes and by holding left mouse button pressed and pulling your mouse rotate your cubes.

5. Hit “OK” button and see what you get. I got this

6. Now you can colorize them by pressing CTRL + U, and you can change your background color also.
Here’s another example

and that’s it!
You can download a psd file at the download section.

Thank you for your support.
Great and hell easy technique, thanks for sharing.
no prob…thank you for supporting…
This might sound like a dumb question but does it matter what version of Photoshop is being used? I have CS2 and I can’t even find the 3D Transform function.
Yes bigpappaJ,
The 3D transform function is only in the professional(or the higher version) of CS3.
Nope, the earlier versions of photoshop had it too. Photoshop 7.0.1 has a 3D transform function.
Great tut I love this cube feature on CS3 - saves shed loads of time!
very abstract looking cubes! thank you for the tutorial.
Call me a stickler, but shouldn’t the first line in a tutorial be one that tells what versions of the program it works with? You have to go all the way to comments? Boy that’s a real time saver. And then to see conflicting answers. Answer me this boy blunder. Where in the menus is the 3D transform tool in CS2?
Well mr stickler why don’t you try to find out f it exist? Like other visitors here. I do not use CS2 and I don’t know if it exists.
Ooops I forgot, you never heard for PS 7, PS CS3…and other versions of PS…tup!
Photoshop CS2 is by far the best in my opinion! CS3 is a big no no, in my eyes. Far too unstable.
I’m still using version 7.0.1. I kinda fall in love with it
But I have CS2 and CS3…
i have cs3 but i don’t have the 3d Transform Tool..is this plugin downloadable?? thanks~~
I wouldn’t know, I wrote this tutorial at Photoshop 7.0.1 version.
Maybe someone else who’s using cs3 version would know.
3D Transform is not included in CS versions of PS.You have to go here: http://www.freeflashmenu.com/3dtransform.htm and download and install by yourself.
Regards!
P.S.
Nice tutorial
Thanks Cantona for a link, and for your support!
Just curious about the whole download things?
Since none of the “good guys” use pirate-software - it is and has been in every CS photoshop… Its in the install CD..
* [CD-drive letter]:\Goodies\Optional Plug-Ins\Filters
* There you will find the file: “3D Transform.8BF”
* Or just search for the file from your install CDs
3D transform IS included in CS versions of Photoshop.
Thank you very much tutorials 007, y’all did save me a hell of a time!!! –Bigg Smoke
Thank you Bigg Smoke
mr.curious as u said i searched for it every where but there is nothing called 3D Transform.8BF
You can download it free from http://www.freeflashmenu.com/3dtransform.htm
Wow, I thought that Photoshop can’t make 3D things…
Thx for sharing…
Wow… That’s amazingly easy… Can’t do it right now, but I’ll be using this in the future.
Thanks,
Night
OK people here are talking nonsense, so here goes:
The Plug-in is included in 7, CS and CS2
IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN CS3!! Looks like Adobe discontinued this plug-in. If you happen to have older versions of Photoshop you can get the 8BF file from the Goodies directory, drop it in the filters directory of your Photoshop CS3 Installation and have fun.
CS3 now has special 3D layers that you can create by importing 3D models (generic files like obj), but that’s not the same thing, and you do need to have some sort of 3D program like Blender, Maya, Max, XSI or others in order to create the 3D geometry before you can import it into Photoshop.
I installed 3d transform plug in but it wonr work in the menu
2. Now, create a new layer.
Go to Filter -> Render -> 3D Transform
I have CS extended and this path does NOT exist
Perhaps your instructiona are in error
Asalam_U_Alikum! to every one. Well guys i cannot make this thing. Got PS 7.0 & do have 3D transform as well, but after making these cubes i just don’t get any thing on the layer can any one help?
